New England Championship Wrestling proudly presents a very special event – the 2015 IRON 8 Championship, this Saturday night, May 9 at the Cove Community Center, 19 East Corning Street, Beverly, MA with a 7 PM bell time.
The IRON 8 is an NECW tradition and one of the area’s premiere wrestling events of the year. Billed as “the ultimate test of skill, stamina and strategy,” 8 men are selected by the NECW Championship Committee from both inside and outside the NECW ranks. They are then paired into an opening round of 4 one on one match-ups. The four winners of those bouts then go on to face each other the same night in a four way, 45 minute iron man match. The man who scores the most pins or submissions in the 45 minute period is the winner and the 2015 IRON 8 Champion.
In order to win the event, a wrestler must be capable of wrestling for an hour – first against a top flight competitor on a one on one basis, then against 3 other opponents in an all out battle for athletic supremacy.
The first two competitors in this year’s IRON 8 are former two time NECW Television Champion, “The Masshole” Mike McCarthy and “The Canadian Giant” Genesis. Joining them will be, “The Pure Talent” Chris Escobar who has had a distinguished career wrestling mainly out of the Mid-Atlantic area. He has held the NWA North American Tag Team Championship, Virginia Championship Wrestling Commonwealth Championship and Tag Titles, as well as the NWA Virginia Cruiserweight and Tag Team Championships. He was a member of the former Inoki Dojo in Los Angeles and has also been in the American Super Jr tournament. He has also worked for ROH, NWA Showcase, WWE, FIP, and recently for OMEGA. The third competitor is Todo Loco, the two time former NECW Television Champion who is competing in his 2nd IRON 8. The other competitors are “All Good” Anthony Greene, an outstanding rookie competitor who broke into wrestling at the age of 14 on the NECW ring crew and has become a fast-rising star on the Eastern independent circuit, current NECW Television Champion, “Sensational” Scott Levesque, competing in his third IRON 8, Brandon Thurston, a polished ring technician and submission specialist from the New York based 2CW promotion and three time former NECW Tag Team Champion, Nick Farenheight.
In addition to the tournament there will be one additional match, NECW Heavyweight Champion, Brad Hollister will defend his title against the former two time champion, Slyck Wagner Brown, who surrendered the title to Hollister last year, after Hollister won the 2014 IRON 8.
